They should be able to tell you if you turned a profit or made a loss. And if, for some reason, they have not received a certain week’s or a certain day’s transactions, they should notice that on their own and ask you to send them what’s needed.

Communication

A good accountant will be able to break things down and explain them to you. They should clearly tell you how much money you made and how much you spent. They should be able to tell you where you’re overspending and where you are underspending (or at least give you the figures for each part of your business). They should be able to give you financial advice in a way you understand.

Professionalism

A good accountant will have your books updated at least by the end of the month, if not whenever you need them. They won’t keep you waiting for something for days on end. They won’t keep postponing the date when your accounting reports will be ready. They will also speak to everyone in your office with courtesy and professionalism. And their charges will be commensurate with the amount of work you expect them to do.
