What can be helpful is for business owners to look at charts; bar graphs or pie charts are easy for most people to understand. This is something you can ask your accountant to do i.e. summarize all the money coming in and the money going out with a bar graph or pie chart. You’ll get an accurate idea of what your highest sources of income are and where you seem to be spending the most.

Setting Up a Warning System

Yet another thing you can ask your accountant to do is to inform you when they see something irregular which might possibly get your company in financial trouble. For example, if they see any large expenses which they haven’t come across before, they should know that they can call you and tell you about them.

The expense might be a legitimate one that you know about or it might turn out to be something unnecessary or even fraudulent. If your accountant knows that it’s ok and, in fact, even necessary to call you as soon as they spot some irregularity of this sort, that will help you to make sure that any financial issues are brought immediately to your attention.
