What Can You Do During a Cash Flow Crisis

According to Business Insider, eighty-two percent of businesses fail because of cash flow. They simply run out of money and struggle to make ends meet. During a cash flow crisis, you might not have enough money to even keep your business going.

So, what can you do during a cash flow crisis?

Speed up your receivables. This means that you are trying your best to get money into your pocket. Be quicker at sending out invoices. Ask for down payments before you start a project. You might even want to make it a priority to work toward the invoices that haven’t been paid. You can go through your old invoices and try to get paid, even if it is only a partial payment. That is better than nothing!

Ask people to work with you during these lean times. If you are like most people, you buy the same supplies at the same place every time. You are a loyal customer, and the business may try to work with you. They may allow you to do partial payments so that you can get the supplies that you need, in order to keep your business running. Don’t wait until it is too late. Ask them early and see if they would be willing to work with you.

Eliminate all unnecessary expenses. Though you may feel like you only buy what you need, the truth is that there are some things that you want, and don’t need. You might be able to buy less materials to save you some money. Employee lunches may have to stop during this time. There has to be something that you can drop, until the money is flowing again!

If you aren’t getting enough money in, you need to do your best to get paid. Send out invoices right away. Go through old unpaid ones and work with these people to ensure that you are getting some money. It is better than nothing. You may also ask those you order from regularly. They may find ways to work with you, to keep your business going, as long as you don’t wait until the last minute!
